On 5 March 2009, the Indian government announced a contest to create a sign for the Indian rupee. During the Union Budget 2010, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee mentioned that the proposed sign would reflect and capture the Indian ethos and culture. Five signs created by Nondita Correa-Mehrotra, Hitesh Padmashali, Shibin KK, Shahrukh J Irani, and D Udaya Kumar had been short listed from around 3331 responses received and one of them was to be finalized at the Union Council of Ministers of India meeting held on 24 June 2010.

India Design Council announces winner of "India Design Mark" Logo

India Design Council has announced the winner of nation-wide INDIA DESIGN MARK competition held from 16th May to 16th June, 2011. The logo designed by Vasant Mehar, an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay alumnus was selected as the final winner. That means good designs produced by India will always have this brand mark as a unique standard. Thirteen excellent entries from several leading designers were shortlisted from amongst a total of 201 entries including the winning entry.

Way back in 2009 December, Dubai was at its Economic worst. Most of the Real Estate firms that used to give me good business had either closed down or sailing through tough waters. that was the time when I thought of entering so called 'Design Contests' online. So many sites like crowdspring.com were offering such so called opportunities. First it felt like an interesting thing to do, as I had no idea how disastrous it could later turn out to be! These sites call themselves 'Crowdsourcing' sites.
